It's a Good News/Bad News Thing
I have had confirmation today that Prince William County has stepped up its enforcement actions against those who would place signs illegally in right of ways. If you see square stickers on any of these signs it appears that this is evidence that county workers have tagged the sign as illegal, photographed it for evidential purposes, and started proceedings to fine the abuser $100. I am going to get in contact with the county tomorrow to see if I can't get more information on this.
This evening Chris Royse, Republican Candidate for Supervisor from the Woodbridge District, wrote to say that he would not place illegal campaign signs. You can read his response on the
No Illegal Campaign Signs 2007 Results Page. I also met Chris in person and he graciously accepted one of the Popsicle Signs Suck stickers.
The bad news for folks in Fairfax County is that the county government is indeed issuing permits to candidates to place their signs in the right of way. Everyone I talk to (that isn't in politics) hates these signs. It seems likely the the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors decided to put this practice in to place so that they could keep putting their signs up without breaking the law. Does the law also allow for commerical signs? If not, isn't that a lawsuit waiting to happen?

Free Popsicle Signs Suck stickers tomorrow night
Want a free bumper sticker (or two, or three...)? Happen to dislike popsicle signs as much as I do? Well I happen to have 100 of the following stickers (3 by 10 glorious inches in size) and I would love to give some of them away.
Here is how to get them:
- Go to the Elks Lodge at 14602 Minnieville Road, Woodbridge Thursday night September 13th for the Prince William County Committee of 100's Political Forum;
- Find me (I will try to figure out a clever way of being identifiable without looking any sillier than normal);
- Promise to do no evil with the sticker/s;
- Enjoy profusely their yellow and black goodness.
I will also be hoping to get a few more politicians to sign on to the crusade. Any help you can provide in the cause would be greatly appreciated.
